Several hours later Lei, Luka and Mika had arrived in the hospital, since there was no chance of getting a space ferry to get them to earth in appropriate time for this catastrophe Lei had called in some favors from his fathers' associates. It wasn't who you knew; it was how you knew them after all. So after a very… prompt departure and arrival the raccoon family had arrived as soon as they were able. Luka's face soaked with tears over the worry of his boyfriend immediately looked to Babi for any news. The elder woman who had been crying for who knows how many hours offered a small half smile before gesturing to Loki. Being in no condition to show him to Maki's room herself.

The older, attractive male stood unlike his mother he didn't smile. He wouldn't smile until he had news of his sister's progress. Standing he stretched out his stiff back before beckoning Luka to follow him. Not wasting any time the raccoon scurried off behind him. Biting on his thumb his unusually fuzzy, unkept tail was anxiously swishing about "how.. how is everyone?" he quietly quipped. He was worried about Maki, well worried didn't exactly cover it but he was also very concerned about Kai and Kimi. He didn't want to be selfish not asking for them and just rushing off to his lover. "Kai's still out" Loki responded, his voice croaky "multiple stab wounds, s'gonna be a while before he wakes up" he paused for a moment outside Maki's door "Kimi's still in surgery" he stared down at the floor, his voice unnaturally quiet.

Luka's glossy eyes shed yet another tear; it didn't take a genius to know that someone who was in extensive surgery for more than 10 hours was going to be just fine and dandy. But he wouldn't say that, he wouldn't allow that hopeless thought out. It was going to be okay, everyone was going to be fine. Placing a hand on Loki's shoulder the raccoon gave it a reassuring squeeze before trodding into Maki's room.

Meanwhile Lei was awkwardly standing in a corner from the group. Not far enough that he was no longer associated with them, but close enough that he wouldn't engage himself in conversation. However his antisocial plans were foiled by a bubbly giggly 3 year old by the name of Daliah Kodah. She would not allow the antisocial Ice King to be on his preferred lonesome.

Up until this point she had fallen asleep being nursed by her grouchy 'gaba' grandfather, however shortly after the arrival of the trio her hazy unfocused little eyes peeked open and she instantly tried to push away to get on the ground. Chuckling weakly Papi had set her down, looking almost amused at her. Lei quirked an annoyed eyebrow as she skidded along the floor on her bottom towards him. Not at the fact that the toddler was approaching him but the fact that the polluted unhygienic floor was probably infecting her! Then she would get sick! And he would have to worry! And have to look after her because obviously he was the best equipped for the job!. He chose to ignore the fact that her father was a qualified brilliant surgeon and her mother was as graceful and caring as any nurse... No he was the best.

Upon arriving at his foot little Daliah gurgled a giggle, smiling a slightly toothy smile up at him, opening her little arms "Lee gu bah!" she exclaimed with glee. Spirits above only knew what she meant. Unmoving he simply looked at the creature, ever since she was an infant she had adored the ice king, he didn't shower her with attention, he only held her once when she was a month old! But ever since that day when he was near she was all giggles and smiles. He would admit that he didn't totally detest it…. Much.

Unphased by the lack of attention Daliah held her arms, as if knowing his resistance wouldn't last. Letting out a silent sigh from his nose Lei bent down to pick up the child, rolling his eyes as she bust into little giggles. Once satisfied that she was level with his face, the little tot stretched out her tiny hands feeling around his face, as if to triple check it was 'Lee'. Her eyesight was only at 30% and it was uncertain if it would ever improve. She was too young for glasses, but with a blind mother she had found her own way of 'seeing' with her hands. Trailing her little fingers over his cheeks, feeling the fine fur, up along his damp nose she reached his eyelids before smiling "lee lu bah". The corner of Lei's mouth seemed to quirk up slightly, as if he understood what she was saying. She wrapped her arms around his neck engulfing him in a hug.

Babi and Papi stared in amusement, Kiya giggled still nursing her son who seemed resistant to leave her lap, awake now, his pigmented pink eyes with slight hue's of brown stared at the affectionate display between his big sister and the big raccoon as he sucked on his fist.

The silent Zeik glanced up saying nothing. Though some might say a shadow of a smile tugged at his lips.

The only unphased person was a visibly shocked Mika, his eyes were wide, through his fur he was pale, tears brimming at his eyes as he stared unblinking at the door that the nurse would come through to tell them about Kimi.

Before Luka had entered the room Maki was blankly staring up at the white ceiling, his arm was numb. Well considering those bastards had found that dislocating his shoulder was simply not enough they so thoughtfully went out of their way to break his arm by twisting it the wrong way until an audible snap was heard and a screaming red skinned and kick his head just hard enough that he needed staples in it.

He was scared.

He was scared; he hadn't been scared since he had come out to his family. It was an unbearable feeling of despair, a paralytic inability to move, difficulty to think; to breathe. It wasn't himself he was scared for, it was his siblings. Kai, Kimi… dear god Kimi. There was so much blood, so many cries. The self-appointed leader of the group had gone for Kai after he had made him miss his intended aim of their sister. He had wrestled him to the ground, others helping him… then his knife had come out.

Before he knew what was happening the chaos had turned into utter havoc. Numbing pain in his arm and the blood leaking from his forehead made the red man lose consciousness, the sirens were the last thing he heard before he woke up not too long ago, his parents had visited him. Though not filling him in of details that he so longed for. He didn't need to stress they thought.

But he needed to stress, he was there he saw what had happened.

He had never felt so scared and useless in his life. Biting his lip as an unfamiliar salty wetness trailed down his face, he barely so much as swallowed before his door creaked open and it was as if fate had sensed his distress and sent the one person he knew could help him right now.

Luka.

Said raccoon stood motionless by the door for several moments first it was to take in the sight of his lovers bandaged and casted arm the morphine drip on his other arm and the painful looking things on his head. Whilst his golden eyes lingered on Maki's face they widened slightly at the sight of tears. In their 4 years together he had never seen Maki cry, not once he found that he didn't like the sight. Maki shouldn't have to cry, Luka did enough crying for the pair of them.

"Hey Luke" Maki croaked out with a small smile, sniffling once. Luka smiled gently walking over to Maki, his hand gently brushed across his cheek. "Hey yerself" he replied his thumb stroking against the red skin of his lover. Setting himself down on the bed Luka kept the silence, leaving Maki to talk if he needed to. Maki placed his hand which had the morphine needle in it on top of Luka's closing his eyes he sighed gently "how was the competition?". For some reason around Luka the red skinned dendrobati didn't want to talk of downcast things, he didn't want to linger on negative…. 'karma' as Luka called it.

The raccoon in question smiled gently, his other hand brushing a few strands of Maki's unkept hair out of his face, humming slightly at the question "cold" he replied "lot less people watchin' this year" probably due to the cold weather, he would have to remember to thank Babi again for that tail warmer. Maki nodded slightly, wincing as the pressure hurt his head. Luka rubbed his cheek "try not to move so much" he said gently with a frown, not liking to see Maki in pain. Maki fondly rolled his eyes, sighing "so what'd you place?" he inquired with a mild yawn, the morphine was definitely starting to kick in. he had long stopped asking if luka placed it was inevitable that he would. It was a strange smile that graced the silver furred raccoon's face "I didn't" came the response.

Maki blinked once.

"Didn't" he echoed just to check if it wasn't the pain medication that had affected his hearing.

For the first time in what seemed like ages Luka giggled softly, he missed feeling the joy. Or in this case amusement, he couldn't help it his boyfriend looked absolutely adorable when confused. "I didn't get ta' surf" he explained gently, his finger trailing the curve along Maki's cheek "Zeik called Lei on the mornin' we were up, so we dropped out" he shrugged. Surfing competition's where everywhere, they were hosted all the time. But the well-being of Maki, Kai and Kimi? Well that was worth a bajillion silly surf competitions.

Maki frowned "I'm sorry Luke" he sighed turning his head "I knew how much you were looking forward to it" it was true, he had been training and practicing for over a month for this competition, Ice berg dodging, freezing water temperatures and wild creatures lurking below the surface. This was one of the most adrenaline needing surfing competitions anywhere in the nebula. He hated causing Luka disappointment. Said raccoon simply shrugged "yer more important" he said as if it was the most obvious thing to do "and you need me" he smirked slightly at the prospect for the next while he got to be the one taking care of Maki. The red frog caught sight at his lover's grin and gently chuckled "you think you can take better care of me than my nurse Betty?" he asked teasingly. Luka sucked in a breath "mmmmm I dunno" he cooed softly, the finger that was resting on Maki's cheek trailing softly down his neck "she doesn't know how to treat you like I do" he hummed lightly, a soft smile playing on his lips.

Maki smiled, feeling he hadn't been smiling right since Luka left. Stretching out his uncasted arm he stared up at Luka "c'mere" he requested softly, beckoning softly with his fingers. Slowly, cautious of his wounds Luka pressed himself against him his head resting in the crook of his neck breathing softly against his skin he sighed in contentment.

"I still want a sponge bath"
